When I was eighteen, I traveled abroad for the first time. My destination was Japan. I had always been interested in Japanese culture, so I was incredibly excited when my parents gave me the trip as a graduation gift.
The journey began with a long flight from my home country. It took about twelve hours. When I arrived at the airport in Tokyo, everything felt different. The signs were in Japanese, the food smelled unfamiliar, and the city was much busier than I expected. At first, I felt a little nervous because I didn't speak the language, but I quickly discovered that many people could speak some English and were very willing to help.
During my two-week trip, I visited beautiful temples in Kyoto, tried authentic sushi and ramen, and even stayed in a traditional Japanese guesthouse called a "ryokan." One of the most memorable experiences was visiting Mount Fuji. The view from the base of the mountain was breathtaking.
Traveling abroad taught me a lot about myself. I learned that I could be independent and adapt to new situations. I also realized how important it is to be open-minded and respectful of other cultures. That trip changed my perspective on the world, and since then, I have traveled to many more countries.
